This nostalgic scene depicts young boys off on an adventure in their small town.  Australia was a young country.  The Golden Fleece no longer exists of course, and is one of so many memories that are of 'an era' fast disappearing from our memories.  I loved painting these kids.  What's their story? Are they going to take that boat out of the mechanics shed? Are they going to pop into the store for some lollies?  Are they walking all the way down to the lake?  Are they on a mission?
